Martial Arts of several disciplines make up a major part of SCA activities.
HEAVY ARMOURED COMBAT
For those who love knights in armour, or for those who just like hitting each other with sticks, SCA heavy armoured fighting is the activity for you. Modeled after medieval tournament fighting, heavy armoured combat was the first combat activity introduced, dating back to the very first SCA event in the 1960s. Kings of the various S.C.A. kingdoms are determined through armoured combat “crown tournaments” held every six months.
We fight full contact, with fighters wearing real armour and wielding rattan weapons, not live steel; blows are struck at full force.
Battles can be fought one on one or
in groups, sometimes even in wars with hundreds of combatants together
at once!
RAPIER AND SIDE SWORD
In the years of the renaisance rapier
was king. More genteel, in the opinions of some, than the heavy combat
of earlier times, but more than the simple poking of modern fencing, rapier
and side sword are guaranteed to to satisfy anyone who has ever wanted
an ostrich plumed hat.
