What is the SCA?

“The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) is an international non-profit volunteer educational organization. The SCA is devoted to the research and re-creation of pre-17th century skills, arts, combat, and culture, and employing knowledge of world history to enrich the lives of participants through events, demonstrations, and other educational presentations and activities.”

That’s the official description. Practically, speaking: While dressed in clothing of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, you can experience tournaments, royal courts, feasts, and dancing. You also have the opportunity to learn and practice ancient arts and skills — calligraphy, cooking, armoring, metalworking, music and dance, carpentry, and needlework (to name just a few) — within an all-ages, inclusive social group. The SCA is a great place to make friends and learn skills.
