In a bid to bring Their Excellencies the stars through rapier, as the glories of the night sky are a panoply of colour, fencers are called upon to bring forth all the varieties of their skill for display.
The tournament will be conducted as an open field battle, so that participants may fight as much and as many people as they wish. Weapons are not expected to be matched for this tournament format.
Upon registering with lists, a card will be marked with the fencer’s name. For reporting after each fight, a star will be provided to be added to the card. Arranging your stars into constellations (existing or of your own design) is always appreciated! Due to the scoring format, both fighters will report to lists after each match, win or lose.
In addition, the winner of the match will obtain an additional star, with its colouration matching the weapon style they used in that bout. In the case of a double-kill, both participants still get the star for reporting their match to lists, but neither gets a star for weapon style — double-kills are destructive.
Recognized weapon styles for this tournament are:
- Single rapier
- Two weapon (rapier and dagger, paired daggers, or case of rapier)
- Sword and non-rigid parry (e.g. cloak)
- Sword and rigid parry (e.g. baton)
- Sword and buckler
As an extra option, anyone winning a bout with single rapier may select the star of any weapon style instead of the single rapier star, accommodating those without the kit or the authorization to fight in those styles.
Points will be calculated as follows, per card:
- 1 point per star of any kind, plus
- 1 points for having 2 different weapon style stars, or
- 2 points for having 3 different weapon style stars, or
- 3 points for having 4 different weapon style stars, or
- 4 points for having 5 different weapon style stars.
So, if you win five bouts in a row using all different weapon styles, you would receive a total of 14 points (10 points for the number of stars on your card, plus 4 bonus points for the variety of styles). Alternately, if you won five bouts in a row using the same weapon style for all of them, you would have a total of ten stars and receive a total of 10 points, but no bonus points for variety of style.
At any point a participant may turn their card into lists for points and begin a new card. There is no maximum number of stars that may be put on one card, so long as there is space to add the stars, but turning in cards more often will allow for getting the bonus points for variety of weapon style more often — they are only added once per card, regardless of the number of stars on the card.
The winner of the tournament is the combatant with the most points, by sum of the points of all their cards.
After the tournament, the collected constellations of all participants will be presented to Their Excellencies, in service to Their request to bring them the stars.
