TRILLIUM WAR CLASS DESCRIPTIONS<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Medieval Spice Mixtures with Frowe Dorothea ($5): The proper use of spice was the hallmark of a good
cook, and an indication of wealth and status in medieval Europe. We will discuss popular spices as we
make some of the more popular spice blends of Medieval Europe. We will make up our own spice
blends like Poudre Fort, Poudre Douce, Fine Spice Powder, Sweet Spice, and Trisenet, from a variety of
whole and ground spices. Make your own blends to your taste, as no two cooks had exactly the same
recipe. You must bring your own mortar and pestle to help powder and blend your spices. Class Size: up
to 8. Cost: $5 to cover the cost of spices and handout. 1 hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Medieval high tech, how to build and use a war mud oven with THL Jehanne de Bretagne and THL
Brendan Hunterson: In this two part class we will explore the complex process of building a war oven,
often built on campaign as a semi permanent structure, as described in period litt\u00e9rature. We will look
at building, firing and, in the second part, using the oven to cook a period recipe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Embroidery -Mastering the Detached Buttonhole Stitch with Amelye Merriman ($10): A fantastic
\u2018filler\u2019 stitch for coifs and jackets. If you are new to embroidery, there will be a stitch \u2018primer\u2019 class on
Friday (tbd) Skill level: Intermediate (or Very Ambitious Beginner)
Using motifs found in Amelye’s embroidered coif (patterned after a late-period cushion cover), we will
cover the technique of using detached buttonhole stitch to fill areas of colour in polychrome
representational free-hand embroidery. We will also discuss thread management and order of
operations for laying down stitches, as well as multiple colours and stripes, and what the style was in
period.
There will also be an informal class on Friday at Amelye’s camp\/Harpy Hall (time and site to be added to
the schedule) to cover all four stitches used in the coif, for any interested. Beginners welcome!

Please bring a sewing kit with snips, and preferred needles and small embroidery hoop if you have one,
but supplies will be available for all. Kit fee is $10 and includes all supplies for this sample project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

on Come and hang out in Kwakhaus for informal stitchery witchery. Bring your current project, bring
something you finished and want feed back on, or just bring yourself have an ice tea and a cookie and
lets chit chat about future projects and starting points. At the camp of the household of one of the best
embroidery mistresses Ealdormere has ever seen, and hosted by The Honourable Lady Eeva the
Restless, the problematic middle child of the house, our aim is to have fun, help each other out, geek
out and relax doing something we love. If you are new to embroidery, that\u2019s awesome too. Gotta start

hoops for anyone that wants to go over specific stitches but it would be best if you can bring your own

Dumpling Event with Frowe Dorothea: Nothing formal, but a time to gather, make dumplings and
discuss what makes a dumpling and various dumpling types across countries and across time. At the
encampment of Maggie of Ealdormere (across from Ramshaven camp ) , where there will be a stove
and a fire pit in which to cook said dumplings.

Mistress Aurelia Memorial A&S Symposium with her Excellency of Ramshaven, Brigit Larkins presiding<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We are excited to announce the return of our Mistress Aurelia Memorial A&S Symposium. This year’s
Symposium theme – Embroidery! Our fantastic panel will include experts from across our great Kingdom
sharing one of their projects with us – their inspiration, their process, their research, and their learning.
After each presenter, we will open the floor to questions from the populous. Each presenter represents
a different time period and\/or region so that all may walk away inspired from our Symposium. Come
and join us in Mistress Aurelia’s memory for an afternoon of amazing projects and exciting speakers as
they share their journey in learning and practicing this beautiful medium.

Rapier Marshaling Tools with Rozi Galea: There are a few useful tools for a rapier marshal to have on
hand, and\/or know how to use. Not all of them are described in the marshal’s handbook. These tools
will be available all day, and this class time is set aside to discuss them and demonstrate how they work.
This class is for anyone interested in rapier, but especially those newer to SCA fencing. You do not have
to be a marshal to attend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Glamping – How to stay warm on cold weekends with Johanna Jansen. From sleeping bag (or blankets)
to your bed type to tents to clothing to what to eat\/drink to stay warm. Tent choices will also be
discussed. Which are better, how to keep them in good repair. Johanna has camped since very, very
young and can offer some sound advice on a few areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Academy of Defense Symposium with Genevieve la Flechiere: time and location to be determined<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Liking Lichens with the Vikings (Saturday afternoon in DARC camp) with Wilfrid of Sweflingham:
Producing dyes from earth tones to electric pink and sky blues, lichens dyes yield colors across a wide
colour spectrum. This class will cover the collection, preparation, and dyeing with a selection of lichens
using the boiling water and ammonia fermentation methods, some archeological observations, and a
little bit of chemistry. Yarn will be provided for samples from at least two lichen dyes, but there should
be space for a few extra small skeins. Lichen dyes are substantive, so no pre-mordanting is required.

Drawing Islamic Geometric Patterns with Mary of Caer Draeth: Based on Eric Broug’s methodology
from his modern published works. Learn to create the stunning tessellations used to decorate the
Islamic world. A compass, ruler, and basic math are used to construct 4 and 6 fold templates, then we
will create a simple pattern that can be repeated again and again! Remember to bring glasses. Materials
will be provided, donations to the college.
Times: 1hr long on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday mornings. This is when I’m available to teach, you pick
how many times and when. Make it fit your schedule!
Make your own belt with Ellaire ($15): Join Ellaire from Reliquaria to make your own belt using a
modern belt blank (with easy snaps) and a medieval replica buckle. You will have the opportunity to dye
your belt your favorite colour, choose a replica buckle from a selection provided by Reliquaria and learn
about more accurate ways to make your garb look more authentic. You might event pick up a few style
tips along the way.
In Persona Meet and Greet with Petronill Seel : Come to the town square, oh travellers and be
welcome. Whether merchant, pilgrim, wastrel, or noble, come and chat with others travelling this fine
summer season. An opportunity to roleplay your persona for a little while, it matters not if you have a
fully researched one from an Aztec civilization or a vague sense of \u201csomewhere in Ireland because I
think they wore pants.\u201d This is my first time running one of these sessions so note there will be a
learning curve for everyone. It is recommend by others who have tried this, that we refrain from seeing
and commenting on anachronisms as much as possible, so even though our clothing and habits might be
odd to each other we still treat them as expected.
Norse Material Culture with Sylard, \u2018that Viking Guy\u2019: Sylard will be having an ongoing ‘Norse
MaterialCulture’ discussion at his booth set up in front side of the DARC camp. He will have more than
just sales related example of various forged items, things related to iron smelting. He will also bring
along a few (treasured) reference works. Not really intending a formal lecture session. More a come by
and chat kind of Q & A. Ongoing casually throughout Saturday and Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
