Scrumpy Day was a wonderful success despite the weather. At least it was a warm rain, and it didn’t really pour down until after we had the trucks unloaded. Woot!
The apples were sparse this year, so we drove further than we normally would. It’s probably a good idea to take notes as to where the best apples were…maybe next year? Thanks to Penda who lead us all up and down the country sideroads in search of some good apples as well as Wulfwynne who drove the rest of the gang around. She also gave us a knife sharpening lesson (she shuddered when I showed her my knife 🙃) but apparently I was the only one in need of a lesson as Cheddar and Yngveld already knew how. While we carefully chopped up the apples, Penda and Wulfric got the apple cider press all set up. Apparently, squishing the apples with a sledgehammer works best before putting the apples in the press.
Of course this is a lot of work and takes a lot of time so thankfully we were able to keep our strength with copious amounts of chili, cheese, buns, and a very tasty sampling of some Roman style meat patties accompanied by some tangy homemade mustard thanks to Cheddar and Yngveld. After chopping apples for a few hours we were treated to Wulfwynne’s yummy apple crisp. Such a treat! We finished up around 6pm. A long day but with good company. We ended up with 6 gallons of cider with a sugar content that should produce 8% alcohol content for next years Brouhaha.
Before calling it a day, we had Yngveld do a brush-up with some armour inspections… not that she needs reminding, just that being away apparently, her marshal certificate needs to be re-done 🤔
Next gathering will be October 26, 2025 beginning at 1 until we are done for fight practice. Armour will be inspected, so if there are issues, no worries, we will get you fixed up in the workshop.
Solstice Feast will be Saturday, December 20th, 2025.
