Seeking Applicants for Baronial Chronicler

The Rising Waters Baronial Council is seeking applicants for the role of Baronial Chronicler. Our much cherished Cataract has chronicled the events, interests and activities of baronial members since the early days of the Barony in 1989. The Cataract is a quarterly newsletter published by and for the members of the Barony of Rising Waters and was converted into an online blog in January 2022. The Cataract includes:

  • The Official Calendar of Events
  • Letters from our Baronial Officers
  • News about the Barony of Rising Waters
  • Event flyers
  • Articles on medieval-themed subjects

The Chronicler’s responsibilities include:

Chroniclers must be warranted by the Kingdom Chronicler. New chroniclers should email the Kingdom Chronicler to notify them of the change of office, and request their information is added to the Chronicler Warrant.

  1. Maintain membership in the Society for Creative Anachronism
  2. Produce a quarterly issue of the Baronial newsletter, the Cataract, which can include a range of content from a simple schedule of upcoming events to articles by local members.
  3. Maintain an updated list of Baronial officers and Baron and Baroness for publication.
  4. Report Kingdom Chronicler, Baronial Seneschal, Baron/Baroness, King/Queen, Prince/Princess, and Society Archivist (optional)
  5. Attend monthly Baronial meetings, and provide reports. If they are unable to attend, they must arrange to submit their report to the Baronial Seneschal before the scheduled meeting.

The Chronicler is, to a certain extent, similar to the historian of the group. To this end, it’s important to have updated lists of the Baron and Baroness, as well as all the Baronial officers. The Chronicler is also, usually, the archivist for past copies of the newsletter. The Chronicler does not have to write the entire newsletter by themselves ‐‐ unless they choose to. It’s a lot of work just to put out a newsletter.

We hope to transfer the role to a new Chronicler this Summer.

To apply for this role, please email your interest in this role and what you’d like to do with the Cataract, along with your SCA resume to the Baronial Seneschal, Baron Dmitri Kievskoi and Baroness Sciath.
